My bad Blu-ray burner was a Pioneer and it was much louder. The only issue I noticed was sometimes ripping a audio cd the drive will make errors when the drive is at it's max speed. Too fix this issue I dropped the speed down to 16x. Firmware version is 1.02 I'm hoping the next firmware update will take care of this error issue. This is a OEM so no sata cable OKGear 18" Premium SATA III Round Cable 6GB/s. There is a CD with bundled software in the box. The Microsoft Windows Driver 6.1.7601.17514 6/21/2006 works perfectly with this Blu-ray burner. No ASUS driver available for this burner. I bought it to back up large amounts of data. I was using Double Layer DVDs, but files keep getting bigger and bigger (twss).I have tested to see how well it does play movies just to check it out and it does a wonderful job (Used TotalMedia Theatre 5). Also just for fun I ripped a BR movie to MKV to see its rip times and was pretty impressed. I've burned 5 ~24GB disc (and verified) so far with no problems. For the price this is a great drive... but note it DOES NOT come with BR Playback software... Obtain either PowerDVD or TotalMedia Theatre 5 if you plan on playing Movie BluRay Disc.
