31 of 31 people found the following review helpful Good Receiver, no Manual, By Kevin (Corvallis, OR United States) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Onkyo TX-NR616 7.2-Channel THX Select2 Plus Certified Network A/V Receiver(Black) (Electronics) First, my only major complaint, and the reason for only 4 stars. There is no printed manual supplied with this receiver. All you get is a quick start guide that's a few pages long, enough to get you running, but sorely lacking in any real information. I posted a URL to the user manual I found in the comments. The product pictures are accurate, and the speaker connections in the back fit common banana plugs perfectly. Included accessories are a remote (with batteries), a microphone for the automatic speaker configuration (haven't tried this since my rear speakers aren't placed yet), and AM and FM antennas. The AM antenna is cheap but works well enough. The FM antenna is just one of those little wires and it sucks. If you do any serious FM radio listening, you'll want to acquire a better antenna to use with it. The OSD is a little primitive, but it looks decent enough and gets the job done. Pandora works well, the setup of it is easy, again the interface is... Nothing would show up on the screen properly and the update process failed mulitple times over the network until I did it using a USB stick. After that update I could only get my stuff to work if I unplugged the unit and plugged it back in before turning it back on. Needless to say I was ready to pack it up and ship it back as I was incredibly frustrated. Fortunately within a couple days of receiving the system Onkyo put out another update that fixed the problem that they were having which required the unit to be unplugged and then plugged back in in order for it to work properly. Now after that update everything worked except my PS3. I could not get it to display on the tv unless... I have only had it for a couple of days so this is just a basic overview (I will try to remember to update it after a couple of weeks of use), but the unit seems to working as expected. For around this price point I had also looked at a Denon 2312CI, Denon avr-1912, a Yamaha RX-V671, and Onkyo SR-609. Based on features, reviews, and age of devices, contacted with audiophile stores, and previous reviews of older generation products I decided on the NR616. It honestly just seemed the best bang for the buck. Although time will tell to see if this unit lasts longer than my old unit.I currently employee a 5.1 setup with Polk Monitor 70s up front, A CS2 Center, Monitor 50s in the back, and a PSW10 sub. I originally setup the system using Audyssey, but later started tweeking it myself based on my preferences. Played a Blu-Ray and a streamed movie through my Boxee... Read more |
