No driver or software installation on my Mac - works native in the OS from the desktop just like burning a CD or DVD (OS 10.6.8). I believe there are also 50GB discs available but they cost more. Bottom line: works great. Easy, simple and perfect in my opinion. So for Macs, out of the box this player is a READER-ONLY drive. In order for you to burn, you must use a third party program. I am still figuring it out, having wasted much time in forums trying to get it needs to be, but it's very frustrating.The drive itself is great. It reads and burns quickly and is ready to go (aside from burning to MAC) as soon as you plug it in, it acts like any regular disc drive and your burning aplications should have an optionm which drive you are bruning to. A big bonus is how light and small this is. I suppose this leads to the only concern is that since it is so light, the tray is quite thin and plastic, so if you are not careful, you may accidentally break it, but thats true with nearly anything.
